Black Rock City: Panoramic Video Loops

By Panorama, panoramic video

Shooting video in panoramic fashion at 640×480 with 10 second bursts for each section Zoyous has created a unique effect. Each scene is manually aligned creating 5000 pixel plus width video:

The changes in contrast and brightness along with the mixture of time throughout the scene makes for a panorama technique that would be really interesting to try out.

Google 2009 – Advanced 3D Geo Apps for Web: Earth API

By Google Earth

In 2008 Google announced the Earth API and Google Earth Plugin tandem as a pioneering new avenue for 3D content delivery on the web. The API made it possible for developers to create high performance, rich, geospatial web applications purely in JavaScript and HTML. In the movie below Roman discuss advanced Earth API topics such as programmatic regionation for visualizing large datasets, user interaction techniques, and 3D animation. Its a 55 minute runtime but well worth grabbing a coffee and sitting back to watch:

Brilliant City: Shanghai, China

By city visualization

The title refers to the location, a residential complex comprised of 25 highrises in the northern part of Shanghai, China. It is entirely shot from the 34th floor of one of the buildings and stages a peeping tom view of the city below, capturing everyday activities that can be observed from this vantage point such as training soldiers, building activity, traffic, gardening. The camera hovers above the entire panorama and focuses on details in the everyday life of this rapidly changing metropolis.

City Timelapses: Moscow

By City Timelapses

Moscow City timelapse from Timelapser on Vimeo.

We have revamped the layout of digital urban this week going for a wider format and including a number of clickable categories in the title bar. This allows for a quick and easy way to get to the latest posts, one of these new categories is Timelapses which tended to get slightly lost after they dropped off the front page – so we now have a dedicated thread and the movie above fits in well. Created by Timelapser it was taken during May and June this year with some great imagery of Moscow.

We hope the new look makes navigating digital urban that little bit easier and provides a context for the latest posts, as ever comments and thoughts are welcome. Our next step is a possible discussion forum, more on that at a later date.
