The movie below provides an interesting example of using augmented reality for landscaping. Developed at The Human Interface Technology Laboratory, New Zealand it enables you to create and design an urban area with roads, buildings, trees etc:

Its actually not as difficult as you may think – take a look at our Tutorial on Quick and Easy Augmented Reality, all you need is a simple webcam.

Being mainly ‘digital’ in nature here at digital urban we tend to forget how much work is put into making ‘physical’ models for architecture. Sure you can buy a 3D printer but for that personal touch you need glue, wood, cardboard and time as the timelapse movie below illustrates:

Four Fully funded PhD Studentships at CASA

CASA, the lab where digital urban is based, is please to announce the availability of 4 fully funded PhD studentships are now available at CASA/Department of Geography.

Starting October 2008, applications now invited from suitably qualified candidates for these ESRC/EPSRC awards in the following areas:

ESRC PhD award in collaboration with ESRI (UK) Ltd on the topic ‘Measuring and monitoring population diversity and spatial concentration: GeoWeb 2.0 solutions’.
£18,940 pa tax-free stipend* plus tuition fees.
