Urbanflow Helsinki

By Posts No Comments

Urbanflow Helsinki is a concept by Nordkapp and Urbanscale to envision and build an operating system for everyday life in the cities.

This concept is a first of many, and revolves mainly around the situated screens and their potential use cases. Please check back here and Urbanflow.io in August for more detailed information about the case and it’s background.

We like the last line – ‘it will happen somewhere, lets make it happen here’. We used almost the same line in terms of London only yesterday with regards a different project… it will happen somewhere and we really hope to see Urbanflow in Helsinki soon.
Thanks to akazero on Twitter for sending this in.

The Global Lab Podcast Teaser from CASA

By Posts One Comment

A early heads up that the trailer for the forthcoming podcast from CASA – The Global Lab is now available on iTunes. Global Lab is a podcast about cities, global connectivity and the impact of technology produced here at UCL’s Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis. Each episode features the latest news and perspectives from urban analysis, social complexity and innovation, as well as interviews with cutting-edge researchers from UCL-CASA and guests from further afield.

This podcast is an opportunity for researchers to discuss their work in a way accessible to a wider audience, and to involve people from UCL and the wider community. Martin Austwick of http://sociablephysics.wordpress.com/ fame and Steven Gray from http://bigdatatoolkit.org/ are planning to get researchers from all the major projects at CASA to talk about their work in the next few months, and give people the opportunity to present and edit in the long term. The first episode, featuring Martin De Jode, from TalesofThings, will be out in the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime, you can listen to the teaser trailer and subscribe via iTunes…
We view this as an exciting development in our outreach at CASA and part of a new plan to ramp up tutorials, blogging and general communications. As part of this a new website showcasing all of CASA’s research is coming soon, and as for Digital Urban, we are about to be back in play after some juggling of workloads…

Its been a while….

From three posts a day to almost a month between articles, the shame of it. Its ok though, we have a plan – work even harder and work even longer, it seems to be the only answer.

Despite the lack of posts it has been all go behind the scenes at CASA with developments based around smart cities, internet of things, boris bikes, MRes courses, transport museums, ipads, touch tables, talking architecture, real-time city dashboards, 2012, hubs, biocomplexity and mass mapping. At the moment we are running with the term ‘Hyper-Local-Social’ looking at tagging the city brick by brick with every aspect within a 1.5cm area able to read/write information, moving beyond smart cities.

So apologies again, with a new job we have slipped behind the scenes to make sure things keep ticking but we do have a plan…

The twitter stream of consciousness and research continues, the blog will be back soon…
