This isn't gimmicky. Although it's not a feature everyone uses during all shooting sessions. It's something that really bridges a gap, when you want to get coverage of a scene. It's a mode of doing something that now realized, seems like it should have always been there. After seeing it, I would call it "the only way to fly". Stitching software may be good, but it's also an extra step and not available on many people's favorite image viewer, iphoto, picasa or others. Have you stitched with photoshop? HiRes photos start burning up the processor when you stitch 4 or 5 together. This does up to 99 frames!! Also with wireless cameras and cards, people skip editing all together or use the online editors these days. If you call this gimmicky, you should call image stabilization gimmicky then. Bravo Sony!

So doing this, you're going to be able to pan a crowd at a parade and get much better results I think because of the real time capturing and stitching. I'm actually pretty bummed you guys called it gimmicky. I think he didn't explain it well enough then, or the diorama demo somehow cheapened it for you. He should have panned the crowd at the convention instead.
