<p>Embedded above is a real-time look at the Urban Engine presented by Dr Ben Guy, Director of <a href="http://www.circus3d.com/">Urban Circus</a>.</p>
<p>The engine seems impressive, especially in terms of transport visualisation, below is an example of using the engine to visualise a proposed transit station in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast of Australia:</p>
<p><center><object width="480" height="270"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=1548585&#038;server=vimeo.com&#038;show_title=1&#038;show_byline=0&#038;show_portrait=0&#038;color=ffffff&#038;fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=1548585&#038;server=vimeo.com&#038;show_title=1&#038;show_byline=0&#038;show_portrait=0&#038;color=ffffff&#038;fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="480" height="270"></embed></object><br /><a href="http://vimeo.com/1548585">Bus Rapid Transport &#8211; Broadbeach</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/urbancircus">Urban Circus</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</center></p>
<p>The ability to fly real-time through a scene is without question one of the most important aspects of city models for urban planning / architectural visualisation when aiming to communicate &#8216;non fixed&#8217; design decisions. Highly rendered fly through movies can often alienate the public at large as it seems as if planning decisions have already been taken, leaving the renderings to come across as sometimes little more than marketing movies. </p>
<p>Take a look at <a href="http://www.circus3d.com/">http://www.circus3d.com/</a> for more info.</p>

<p>The video above demonstrates the Urban Engine developed by Urban Circus in use for Canberra, Australia. This represents one the best uses of real-time 3D for urban planning we have seen for a long time. It is refreshing to see a city council having the foresight to invest in such a project, especially one that seems so well executed.</p>
<p>It is well worth taking a look at the <a href="http://www.vimeo.com/urbancircus/videos/sort%3Adate">Urban Circus channel on <span>Vimeo</span></a> as they have a number of movies detailing the engine and their real-time urban planning and architecture work.</p>
