Digital Pen: Capturx for ArcGIS Desktop – On Site Digitising

By ArcGIS Explorer, digital pen, Digitise

Here at digital urban we do have a tendency to track down the latest gadget, all in the name of research of course. As such the Capturx digital pen for ArcGIS has caught our eye. Using the digital pen you can simply print out a map from ArcGIS, draw features on it using the pen and when you sync all your features are geo-referenced and integrated into your digital map.

Capturx for ArcGIS can be used with any ArcGIS Desktop licenses, including ArcView®, ArcEditor™, or ArcInfo®, and is compatible with geodatabase feature classes, such as personal and enterprise ArcSDE®.

Take a look at adapx.com for more info.

We will have more on the digital pen soon as we can get hold of one to try out..

Back to Oblivion: Final Import Movie Elder Scrolls IV – SketchUp Model

By 3dmax, Oblivion, SketchUp

Scanning our old hard drive we came across our final movie detailing the results of a tutorial for importing Google SketchUp models into the Oblivion gaming engine. We thought it was lost to a previous hard drive crash but having found it we thought it was worthy of uploading to Vimeo and sharing again:

Oblivion Mod: University College London Quad from digitalurban on Vimeo.

The process of going from Google SketchUp to Oblivion is well worth it, simply follow our two part tutorial on importing objects SketchUp/3DMax into Oblivion.

C3 Maps: Realistic City Models – Perhaps the Best 3D City so Far?

By 3D City, C3, City Animation

We met with the nice people at C3 last week and they kindly provided a walk through of their latest city modelling technology and its impressive:

The movie above provides a glimpse of the output which interestingly is not dependent on LiDAR. C3 capture the data using calibrated cameras that for every picture knows the positions at angles of capture at a high precision. This enables each pixel to have a known geographical position with decimeter accuracy and thus using a combination of images a 3D model can be produced.

The company has just released their Oslo model and it is well worth taking a look at.

See http://kart.sesam.no/3d/ for a 3D flythough (Windows only at the moment) and http://www.c3technologies.com for more info.

Thanks go to Frank at the Google Earth blog for the email prompt to put up a post on it 🙂
