Architectural Demo Reels: The H4 Group

By Architectural Visualisation, Demo Reels

Established in the UK in 1996 the H4 Group have offices in London, Paris and Nanjing. Working with architects and property developers the company is based around the production of CGI architectural images and visualization, as such their demo reel is up there with the best in the business.

Embedded below the reel has a flowing story line and to be honest we are always sold on seeing small model cities on a table as part of an animation – maybe its just us?:

Introducing the Garmin nuvifone (Movies)

By Gadgets, nuvifone

Garmin’s touch screen GPS phone is an intriguing prospect as its being marketed as a’travel assistant’. In our previous post on Garmin nuvifone – A Phone for Neogeographers? we speculated that the ability to geo-tag information live from the phone could make this a ‘must have’ gadget and make us hold off that iPhone purchase for a while longer.

Garmin have released two videos on YouTube that provide a closer look at the phones features. The second of the two is well worth a look as it provides an overview of the location aware applications:

Meet the nuvifone:

Scenarios:

The movies are almost cringe worthy ‘marketing’ fodder but the phone does seem to deliver…

Time will tell when its released third quarter of 2008.

London Profiler – Easy to Use Geo-Demographics using Google Maps

By google maps, london

London Profiler is a web site that enables users to build up a picture of the geo-demographics of Greater London from data on population attributes such as cultural/ethnicity, deprivation, the extent of e-literacy, level of higher education, and health related problems together with the synthetic free geodemographic classifications available in the UK.

The site allows users to visualise themes at different scales, to search by postcode or zoom at borough level, to change the layer’s transparency and to add KML layers.

Developed by our lab (CASA) we are slightly biased here but we think its a great use of Google Maps combined with more traditional GIS data that would not normally be available online in such an easy to use interface.

We will have more on the concept in the coming weeks with the launch of a new mapping website, can’t say too much at the moment but more news soon as we can…
