Virtual Tourism – Google Maps and Google Earth

By Google Earth, Google My Maps

The ability to embed YouTube movies into Google Maps and now more recently in Google Earth opens up the ability to view video of locations. As such the concept is almost custom made for Virtual Tourism and the aptly named Virtual Toursim blog has created a map with over 150 movies.

They kindly include the code to embed the map, take a look below – each icon indicates a movie to view:

The videos can also be viewed in Google Earth, visit Virtual Tourism for the KML file.

Second Life – Virtual Earth City Images

By Second Life, Virtual Earth

Our most recent tutorial described how to create high resolution panoramas for print from Virtual Earth. To appreciate the image above you really need to either view the full resolution version or display it in such a way that the image can be tiled.

As such we have split the image into 12 separate tiles and imported it into Second Life on a wall covering 30 x34 meters. Splitting the image up into tiles allows the resolution to be maintained and thus the sense of the scale of the city to be effectively communicated in Second Life – as pictured below (click for a larger version, recommend):

The image above, various other ‘step inside’ urban spheres and geographical data can be found in our corner of Second Life run by Nature.

Drop in and see us in Second Life – http://slurl.com/secondlife/Second Nature/232/169/116 or IM Smithee Bertrand and we will send you a teleport link.
