60 Collaborative Tools – Essential Web 2.0?

By Web 2.0

Web 2.0 collaborative tools and social networks are changing the way we interact with each other both professionally and socially.

In terms of digital urban environments it also changes the way in which we can interact with local neighbourhoods and ‘real world’ communities.

Mashable has put together a list of 60 collaborative tools for groups to work together. Take a look here for the full list – we will be providing a breakdown of tools we think are essential for both 3D modelling and community networking in the near future.

Nokia N95 Kite Aerial Photography

By Aerial Photography, N95

Looking at the kite in the corner of the office we started thinking about using it to grab some geotagged images from our N95. A quick google search later however shows that we have been well and truly beaten to it – there are a number of examples out there ranging from attaching a N95 to a remote control plane to the more traditional kite aerial photography.

Scott Janousek has posted a video online of his attempts to attach his N95 to a kite using duct tape:

The N95 has built in GPS – if you then link the GPS with its 5 mega pixel camera in timelapse mode it holds the possibility of good quality aerial imagery.

See Scotts site for more info on his kite flying and Pictearth for advanced image acquisition using lightweight, easy to use UAV, GPS, high resolution sensor, live communication and Pict’Earth software.

Sometime during the week we may try flying a kite in Regents Park, London so if you see someone duct taping their phone to a kite it’ll be us…

Iconic Cities – London Thoughts

By London Underground, Virtual London

Since the arrival of Google Earth a lot of our work has been focused on the geographic and photorealistic representation of the city. With a Geographical Information System (GIS) you can easily overlay data and communicate issues to the public at large.

An example of this is our air pollution movie below –

While such views of the city undoubtedly communicate space and place a constant emphasis on aerial photographs can become slightly dry. As such our look at the 3D London Underground map has led to a new look at iconic images to communicate locational and spatial data:

The image above represents our first thoughts (click for a larger view) – its a Friday thing…
