Below is a tiltshift timelapse of a junction in Pittsburgh, running at over 9 minutes at 30 frames per second with one photograph captured every second it was produced using the IPad 3 and Miniatures:

Miniatures adds a tiltshift effect to each frame, making creating HD timelapses amazingly easy to capture, we simply set the iPad up against a window and left it running while we went back to our conference here at Ubicomp2012.
Minatures Pro is 4.99 via the Apple Store, with a variety of options, including a neat blur feature between frames, its well worth a look.

At the moment our iMac round the back of the office is churning out our first ‘fake’ tiltshift test. Its been running for 3 days and has given the poor thing a notable level of screen burn, while that processes and we wait for the results, below is how it should be done:

Colorama – Makeover from Upper First on Vimeo.

The ‘giant hand’ makes for an interesting take on tilt shift movies. Developed by UpperFirst for Colorama, the idea is to create a visually absurd situation using displacement of scale between the people in frame and the giant hand. It is meant to underline the contrast of small and big, where the hand symbolizes the consumers ability to effect the environment and in the extension his or her own environment.

Many of the tilt-shift/timelapse movies we have featured here on digital urban have been created using a fake title shift effect. The movie below by mockmoon uses a ARAX 2.8/35mm Tilt & Shift lens mounted on a Canon EOS 5DmarkII:

Movie by mockmoon : http://mockmoon.sblo.jp with music by vividblaze : http://www.vividblaze.com

The clip has inspired us to get out the Canon G9, fire off an email to the people behind UrbanTick and sort out our own tutorial and timelapse imagery, more on that in future posts…
